Building a Data API in 2025

At PlayTheory, we've been building a Data API internally mainly for our own use

Most of our products are born out of a need to solve our own problem

This time, it was looking for structured news, at scale for enriching our B2B Data Products - mainly FRLI - a Startup Database with Deep Signals

We looked at options in the market and we weren't sure why do they have to be SO expensive with little value add except the initial work they've put in to index News Sources (which I can confirm IS A LOT OF WORK - but not enough to warrant the premium they're charging)

So, we decided to build our own

It's called NewsStack

Launching soon on Newsstack.co

We've added some enrichment features like NER, Sentiment, Political bias of publishers, and more

We're also working on adding more features like Summarization, and more
